FORD EXPLORER

At dusk I was in my blue Ford Explorer following my friend Patsy in her green Ford Explorer to her home in upstate New York. I was transporting a group of like-minded-chatty women and we were discussing the usual: hair color, help, clothes, politics, men, children, weight, latest movies, theatre, exhibits – all in all having a great and noisy time. I followed the green Ford Explorer as it exited off the Taconic.

We meandered for a long stretch over hill and dale and into a rather forlorn little town and then into a more forlorn little driveway. Now Patsy and her husband have quite a nice New York City life and she’d invited eight of us to stay. This house looked like it might have one bathroom and two bedrooms so we gulped and opened the car doors, got out our gear and looked up to see the owner of the green Ford Explorer aghast. I’d followed the wrong car the wrong way and ended in the wrong driveway in the wrong town. When we finally arrived and Patsy asked what had happened, why we were three hours late, I happily answered not that we’d been lost but that we’d been sightseeing in the pitch black night.
