Jack, age 4, and Eliza, age 1, RULE. Jack cleverly looks a lot like his Grandaddy. Even the doormen remark on the likeness. Pink cheeks, blonde hair, blue eyes, and the same features. Eliza is so cute she doesn’t have to resemble anyone but herself and she still holds sway over Grandaddy. He will play cars and trucks ad infinitum with Jack. He will drive four hours in snowstorms to take him sledding. He will pick him up at school in order to see the pumpkin he picked at the nearby pumpkin patch. He will even, heaven forbid, pass up a round of golf to watch Jack splash in the water at the beach.

Eliza, too little for such activities, gets taken to FAO Schwartz to stare at the huge Teletubbies for endless hours. She will watch the same Sesame Street Movie over and over and over and over and Grandaddy will enjoy it as much as she does.

Grandad is one of the most active men around. He will work all day, go out for the evening, skate, and exercise and never wear out. But for Jack and Eliza he will stop all his activities. He will sit still. Or if they want he will lie down so they can jump on him.

As his wife of 25 years I look on with amazement and sometimes I join them and jump on him too.
