PACK LIGHT

Once when I was younger I decided to tease my new boyfriend. He was taking me to St. Bart’s for a long weekend and told me at least six times to pack lightly. I mean he was 6’5" and weighed 220 pounds. He could heft a few suit cases. So, I borrowed eight large suitcases and lined them up with three of mine, in the front hall so he would see them first thing when he came to collect me. We’d never traveled anywhere so how was he to know whether I changed eight times a day, wore hats and matching shoes, carried my own candles, food and drink, bath salts, books, pillows, sound mufflers or had a case just for my makeup. I lined them up in descending order and waited. Ten a.m. promptly the doorbell sounded. I sat on the stairs as he let himself in and got a great glimpse of his face when he grasped the packing –challenged woman he was dating. He made an about face and walked out the door. Well, I guess I was packing lighter now – by 220 pounds.
